There’s nothing quite like a well-mixed cocktail to make your evening enjoyable. Whether you visit the cocktail bar alone for a nightcap or stop in for a few drinks with friends, the entire experience should feel relaxing. At least, that’s what you can expect at 28 Mile Vodka, a new distillery and cocktail bar near Lake Forest, IL.
The Inspiration for 28 Mile Vodka
28 Mile Vodka was founded on the history of Rose Miller, a famous distiller who built an empire in the area in the days of prohibition. She sold spirits to Al Capone and made Highwood a destination of army troops, who would stop in for a taste of her spirits. Rose Miller died in the infamous Coconut Grove Nightclub fire in 1942, but her legend lives on. 28 Mile Vodka seeks to restore Highwood to its glory days of fancy cocktails and revelry. Its name comes from the fact that it’s located 28 miles from downtown Chicago.
Visiting the Cocktail Bar
If you visit the bar and distillery on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, you can take a tour of the facility, which culminates in a tasting and a cocktail. Any other time, you can order a cocktail and spend some time relaxing either at the 1920s-inspired bar or on the patio.
Mile 28 offers a varied selection of cocktails. For something classic, try The Mule, which is a vodka mule made with ginger beer and lime. For something more modern, try the Orchard Peach, a sweet drink made with peach puree and raspberry tea. The bar also offers a simple food menu with various charcuterie platters, olive appetizers, and cheese boards to pair with your drinks.
