Step Inside Lake Forest’s Citadel Theatre

theater in Lake Forest

Theater is one of the longest lasting art forms. From the Ancient Greeks, Shakespeare and to the modern world of Broadway, theatrical performances continue to inspire us, move us, and make us laugh. And right here in Lake Forest, you can experience the world of theatre at the Citadel Theatre. The Citadel offers classes, classic play performances and the world premieres of new plays.

Performances

During its performance season, Citadel Theatre puts on four shows annually. This upcoming season will be truly unique, with two plays released, Little Foxes by Lillian Hellmann, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber premiering in September and November. They also have a surprise play in store, something so top secret that they can’t announce what it is until September.

Additionally, next year in 2019 the Citadel has an especially exciting performance starting from April to May called Sentimental Journey. This play was written by a local artist about his parents who met during World War II, incorporating popular music from that era to tell their story. This piece is sure to make you laugh, cry and transport you back to the bygone era of postwar America.

Classes

Beyond its full schedule of performances, The Citadel Theatre also offers several classes aimed at children of all ages. Younger children are introduced to the joy of theatre through familiar characters in unique settings. Older children, up to 8th grade will perform full musicals, refine their craft from earlier experiences, and learn the skills and styles to be successful at improv comedy. Their fall classes run September through December, with final performances during the first weeks of December. More information about the schedule of classes can be found on their website.

So, whether you want to take in a performance, attend a world premiere event, or learn about a class, there is something for everyone at the Citadel Theatre, conveniently located 10 minutes from our community in Lake Forest.
